I've Eaten Brie and I'm Pregnant

I ate Brie

I forgot pregnant ladies shouldn't eat uncooked brie due to potential exposure to Listeriosis and got a pre-made festive brie and cranberry sandwich and now I'm panicking that I've caused my baby to be infected. It was made from pasteurized milk but I know this doesn't make a difference because it's the mould bits that are the problem. I have no idea what to do and I'm terrified. Has anyone eaten uncooked brie and was fine?? Help 😭

The risk is very very low, otherwise the population of France would've died out centuries ago! Don't worry, you'll most likely be fine. It's one of those risks that can be removed so why not, but the actual level of risk is minimal to start with

I just feel like such a bad mother already! Can't even remember to not eat soft cheese 😭😭😭

I have eaten so much Brie... I literally ate a wheel for dinner one night.

That was my pregnancy dream.

Thank you so much for this! Defo puts me more at ease!

Modern advice is that soft cheese is fine if it's pasteurized

I was working next to this really great Italian deli in my first trimester and went and got cold cut sandwiches every lunch for like 4 days before I remembered this was a no no in pregnancy.

It happens to all of us. Avoid it best you can moving forward but try not to feel too much mom guilt about this, you've got enough on your plate already with growing a baby. It sounds like you're super conscious about what you're putting into your body and that's amazing!

Thank you for your kind words! I'll try my best not to trip up like this again 😅

If it's pasteurized you should be fine - I've eaten brie during this pregnancy and we're fine.

The risk is predominantly unpasteurized cheese - and the last listeria outbreaks have been in like lettuce

I ate all the things you're "not supposed to" eat while pregnant, literally all of them (okay except for unpasteurized cheese cause I dont even know where to find that in Canada), and I am currently breastfeeding my perfectly normal 6 week old.

I ate so many ham and cheese sandwiches during my pregnancy. They were all I could keep down. Baby girl is perfectly fine.

I ate brie all the time. And blue cheese. I was told if its pasteurized, its fine. I wouldnt worry.

Also, the chances are so low. Whens the last time you caught listeria? Personally, never have. :)

If you're not infected then baby is likely not infected. (S)He could only get it from you.

· 2y due 3/11/20 with my second son 💙💙

I ate salad with blue cheese dressing and I eat sandwiches all the time. I've also had sushi-once when I wanted it. I have a hard time saying no to any antipasti meat. So I don't.... My first sons obgyn said to stop taking all of these fake dietary restrictions to heart. How have people eaten and had babies when food was scarce? Your chance of eating Brie and getting sick are essentially next to nothing.

If it looks shady don't eat it-honestly vegetables are worse than some Brie! Enjoy it when you want it!!!

My midwife said that pasteurized cheese is fine, I've eaten brie a few times and everything has been fine

My dr said if it's pasteurized and from a source you think is safe (no gas station sandwiches) you'll be fine. Most women are told to stay away from lunch meats for listeria but it's also bc of sodium. If you're not taking antacids, your stomach acid should take care of most bacteria you eat. You're gonna be fine, please don't stress out about it.

If you are in the US and it's made here, all cheese is Pasteurized. Also, I'm sure it's fine!

I did it too!!! Stressed for 3 weeks after it and even asked my midwife who said it was fine because it was pasturised
